Question

So. Hairspray is a product I’ve only recently embraced. In my search for the perfect side swept bangs I’ve looked to several products including mouse, pomade, and finally settled on good old fashioned hairspray. In the past I’ve used Dove but was disappointed by its hold and the hard hair it left me with. After discussing it with my hairdresser, she said spending more $$ on hairspray can make a difference.
An article in Marie Clare recommended Umberto for its affordability and hold. I was thrilled to see it stocked at Target with a price of $9.00. After spending about $3.00 on Dove it was a considerable jump, but not as much as $20.00 for products like Bed Head. I must say the hairspray itself has impressed me; however, I have had several “incidents” with the spray nozzle. One nozzle broke entirely and would only spit out a gas type substance instead of product. My current bottle sprays directly up instead of out meaning the top of my head gets product (and the ceiling) but basically nothing else.
I’m about ready to break up with Umberto, but my question is, am I going to have the same luck with another brand? Is this the plight of all hairspray users or have I discovered that what makes Umberto affordable is the crappy nozzle? Also, if I leave Umberto…where I should I go? Without Maria Clare to guide me I’m lost

You are hilarious. I've been happy with Treseme but our hair is pretty much completely opposite :)

I've used their shampoo before and liked it. They are pretty affordable too. Even though in the grand scheme of things $20 is not a huge amount of money, it seems crazy to spend it on hairspray...but it's probably because I'm used to super cheap stuff. I'm willing to spend money on makeup--why should this be any different?

I've had the best luck in the world with Matrix hairspray (in the turquoise-ish bottle). Loooove it!

My personal favorite ... Sebastian Shaper Plus ... but I have very stubborn hair and need the firm hold. I, too, have had "issues" with the nozzle ... on various brands ... and indeed it is very frustrating to shell out $$ for a product and not be able to use it due to defective construction of the container!

I know! It's like the product is taunting me. This morning I had to hold the can down by my chest to get my bangs sprayed.

Is the problem mostly with the clogged nozzle? If so - running it under hot, hot water usually clears away the gooey build up so you can be back in business with your hairstyling. It won't be long and spraying your bangs will be the LAST thing on your mind...
